Insurers Say 'Too Early' To Judge Merits of Brexit Deal

Law360, London (November 26, 2018, 11:32 AM GMT) -- The U.K. insurance industry said Monday that it is "far too early" to know whether Sunday's breakthrough Brexit agreement between Brussels and London will satisfy demands from insurers for regulatory autonomy.

European Union leaders formally agreed in Brussels on Sunday to Prime Minister Theresa May’s plans for exiting the bloc and for future relations between the two parties after March 29. The Association of British Insurers urged the EU and Britain to focus on regulatory cooperation, and to ensure that domestic insurers are not forced to obey EU regulation that London has no control over after the U.K.'s departure.
