Finance Adviser Takes Ex-Directors To Court Over Benefits

Law360, London (January 9, 2019, 4:29 PM GMT) -- Towergate Financial, a U.K.-based adviser, has launched legal proceedings at a London court against two of its former directors, seeking to claw back payments it was forced to make to HM Revenue and Customs after its employee benefit trust was found to have breached tax rules.

The company has said in a suit filed with the High Court that the former directors, Mark Howard and Mitchel Hopkinson, were “unduly enriched” when it had to pay HMRC £330,000 ($383,000) for outstanding taxes linked to a trust that they helped set up.
