Ex-Soccer Pro Blasts Money Laundering Cover-Up Claims

Law360, London (January 10, 2019, 8:24 PM GMT) -- A former Premier League star accused of money laundering told a London jury Thursday that allegations he tried to cover up funds linked to an international fraud by using a project to help injured ex-players is "disgraceful."

Julian Christopher QC, prosecuting, said Nigerian international footballer Sam Sodje used his role in advocating an insurance scheme in 2015 to support former Nigerian players to cover up his part laundering the more than £30,000 ($38,340) in proceeds of a fraud scam two years earlier.
