Tycoon Fighting Extradition Can't Delay $140M Diageo Claim

Law360, London (April 12, 2019, 9:07 PM BST) -- A London High Court judge refused to delay a $140 million claim brought by British drinks giant Diageo against Indian business tycoon Vijay Mallya on Friday. The ruling deals a fresh legal setback to Mallya, who is fighting extradition from the U.K. to India, where he faces fraud charges.

Diageo, the U.K.-based producer of Johnnie Walker scotch and Smirnoff vodka, is seeking summary judgment on its claim for repayment of money it says it is owed by two of Mallya’s affiliated companies.
