Atty Blasts 'Unscrupulous' Insurer At Grounded Yacht Trial
Law360, London (May 1, 2019, 6:23 PM BST) -- An Uruguayan insurer trying to dodge a $380,000 claim over losses allegedly sustained when a pleasure yacht ran aground on a sea reef and was looted by thieves was called unscrupulous by the attorney representing the yacht’s owner at start of the London trial Wednesday.
Andrew Pearson, representing Californian sailor Linda McKeever, told High Court Judge Julia Dias he found it “difficult to imagine a less scrupulous insurer” than Northernreef Insurance Insurance Co. SA, which refused to cover losses when McKeever's vessel became grounded on a submerged reef southwest of the Philippines in 2014.
