Shipper Says Accusers Are Milking Spoiled Dairy Suit

Law360, London (July 4, 2019, 5:02 PM BST) -- A Swiss shipping giant and a vessel owner have denied that damage to a cargo of cigarettes and milk powder was caused by their negligence, claiming that the loss happened because a storm made the ship roll uncontrollably in the sea.

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co. SA of Switzerland and vessel owner Mega Box Shipping Co. Ltd. said in a defense filing dated July 1 that they exercised “reasonable skill and care to the stowage, lashing and carriage” of 3,161 cases of cigarettes and almost 24,000 cartons of full-cream milk powder.
