A Florida federal judge will not force a medical marijuana company to accept liability for sanctions incurred by its in-house counsel over the misuse of generative artificial intelligence, rejecting a rival company's arguments that the lawyer previously avoided monetary sanctions for filing errors and was likely to do so again.

A Florida federal judge has found "there is no basis to consolidate" two lawsuits between medical marijuana company Leafwell and its competitor My Florida Green, concluding Leafwell's lawsuit accusing My Florida Green's counsel of misusing artificial intelligence to wreck Leafwell's business doesn't substantially overlap with My Florida Green's unfair business practice suit against Leafwell and others.

Medical marijuana company Leafwell Inc. said Friday that competitor My Florida Green used artificial intelligence to fabricate legal claims and draft a factually and legally deficient complaint as part of a scheme to extort Leafwell and ruin its business, according to a suit filed in Florida federal court.
