A U.S. Virgin Islands federal judge has found the government owns the title to the historic Caneel Bay resort on a St. John peninsula, ruling against an operator in a dispute that arose after the resort suffered damage from back-to-back Category 5 hurricanes in 2017.

Historic Virgin Islands Resort Sues Feds Over Land Ownership
The operator of a storm-damaged historic Caneel Bay resort sued the federal government in the Virgin Island district court Thursday, accusing the the U.S. of violating a 1983 agreement by refusing to acknowledge the company's ownership of the land the hotel sits upon.
