A Missouri federal judge said Tuesday a handful of major brokerages can back the National Association of Realtors' request to stay claims that they forced home sellers to pay excessive commissions, while the NAR appeals a $1.8 billion jury award in a related suit.

A proposed class of home sellers has accused the National Association of Realtors and multiple brokerages of conspiring to force them to pay excessive fees to brokers representing home buyers, after a Missouri federal court jury on Tuesday awarded more than $1.7 billion to plaintiffs in a similar suit.
