The Ontario Superior Court has issued a sweeping anti-suit injunction against cryptocurrency exchange Binance, holding that the company’s bid to initiate Hong Kong arbitration against class action plaintiffs amounts to an abusive collateral attack on prior rulings that its consumer arbitration clause was void as unconscionable and contrary to public policy.

Canada and Alberta sign memo of understanding on pipelines, natural resources development
In a move the Liberal government says will help make Canada an “energy superpower,” Ottawa and Alberta signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that the two governments agreed would facilitate the construction and expansion of pipelines, thus enabling Western Canada to produce and sell more oil and gas (including liquefied natural gas), as well as expand the development of renewable energy, critical minerals, and other resources that the world needs.

The Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) have launched a “new online tool” to make it easier for “stakeholders to submit their comments on regulatory policies and rules.” The CSA, which is a council of the securities regulators of Canada’s provinces and territories, “coordinates and harmonizes regulation for the Canadian capital markets.”

Justice Dumais named senior associate chief justice of Quebec Superior Court
Prime Minister Mark Carney has appointed Justice Daniel Dumais, a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec for the district of Quebec, as the court’s new senior associate chief justice.
