The Self-Insurance Institute of America told the Sixth Circuit on Thursday that Michigan cannot continue to maintain that its health insurance tax laws do not interfere with the administration of plans under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in a similar case.

Self-Insurance Institute of America Inc. objected Wednesday to two amicus briefs submitted to the Sixth Circuit in a case over whether Michigan's health insurance tax laws are preempted by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, calling the briefs a perversion of the amicus process.
