An Illinois federal judge granted preliminary approval Thursday to a $445,000 settlement between Petco and 445 warehouse workers who accused the pet supply chain of unlawfully capturing, storing and using their voiceprints through headsets they used to navigate work tasks.

Two former Petco warehouse workers can continue pursuing claims that their voices were unlawfully collected and used for identification because they have plausibly alleged that the company mishandled protected data even if it isn't called a voiceprint, an Illinois federal judge said.
