Wyndham Hotels & Resorts Inc. can't get out of a lawsuit alleging that two hotels, in West Virginia and western Pennsylvania, forced homeless or desperate people into servitude in exchange for shelter, though a federal judge has trimmed several claims against the company and one hotel's owners.

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts argued to a federal court Monday it could not be plausibly alleged the chain knew or could have known that its former franchisee at a New Stanton, Pennsylvania, Days Inn was exploiting laborers in a room-for-hire scheme, and so it should be dismissed from the laborers' lawsuit.

Two hotels affiliated with Days Inn and Wyndham have been engaging in a multistate labor trafficking scheme, three former workers alleged in a lawsuit in Pennsylvania federal court, saying they were offered rooms in exchange for work and then locked into an inescapable debt arrangement.
