An Alabama federal judge granted a partial win to Frankenmuth Mutual Insurance Co., saying the insurer does not have to cover most claims asserted against a construction company for shoddy work, but sent to trial the policyholder's bid for coverage of "negligence and wantonness" claims.

Frankenmuth Mutual Insurance Co. shouldn't have to cover claims that its policyholder did shoddy work on a $2.3 billion construction project, since the damages were discovered before the builder took out the insurance policy, the insurer told an Alabama federal court.
