A California lender accused of assigning and refinancing already-sold loans asked a New Jersey federal court Friday to dismiss or stay the claims, noting the suit followed on the heels of litigation it had already commenced in New York over the same dispute.

Old Republic National Title Insurance Co. has told a New Jersey federal judge that it should be let out of a lawsuit alleging it assisted in a fraudulent scheme in which a California lender pocketed proceeds by refinancing already-sold mortgage notes, saying the claim is precluded by New Jersey Supreme Court precedent.
