Nigerian Gov't Sues Shell, Eni In UK For $1B Over Oil Deal

Law360, London (December 13, 2018, 9:15 PM GMT) -- The government of Nigeria filed a $1.1 billion lawsuit against Royal Dutch Shell PLC, Italian oil company Eni SpA and other companies in London's High Court Thursday over a 2011 oil deal that is at the center of allegations of corruption.

The suit alleges that money paid by Shell and Eni to acquire an exploration license for a Nigerian oil block called OPL 245, which holds billions of barrels in estimated oil reserves, was used by corrupt government officials for their personal gain.

Shell and Eni are accused of making payments to a company controlled by Dan Etete, a convicted money launderer...
