Finance Firm Denies Liability In $1.9B Danish Tax Fraud

Law360, London (April 5, 2019, 4:34 PM BST) -- A financial services provider being sued in a London court by the Danish tax authority for allegedly taking part in a $1.9 billion tax fraud has hit back, describing its role as “purely administrative” and saying in a counterclaim that the agency gave poor advice on the tax applications at issue.

New York-based Acupay Systems LLC said in its defense that it is a “nonfraud defendant” in the litigation brought by the Customs and Tax Administration of the Kingdom of Denmark against dozens of financial companies and individuals in the U.K. that it says submitted bogus claims for so-called withholding tax....
