Iranian Oil Co. Wins Asset Freeze For $87M Fraud Leader

Law360, London (April 16, 2019, 9:55 PM BST) -- A London judge Tuesday slapped a worldwide asset freeze on an Iranian man found to have orchestrated an $87 million fraud against an oil and gas engineering company, citing evidence indicating that the defendant might try to hide his wealth.

In his oral ruling, Judge Nigel Teare said he believed defendant Reza Mostafavi Tabatabaei might “improperly or unjustifiably” dispose of assets in order to thwart a recent £73 million ($95.3 million) civil judgment that Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Co. won in its suit accusing Tabatabaei and others of misappropriating money the company had paid for an oil rig in Turkey....
