New Tax Evasion Blooms After Int'l Crackdown, Panelists Say

Law360, Brussels (October 25, 2019, 3:13 PM EDT) -- International efforts to fight tax evasion have prompted new, more aggressive forms of evasion and avoidance to arise, according to panelists who spoke at a conference in Brussels.

Policymakers need to think several steps ahead, as their successful efforts to curb some types of tax avoidance have led to new techniques, Oddný Helgadóttir, assistant professor in the department of business and politics at the Copenhagen Business School in Denmark, said Thursday. She spoke at a conference hosted by the Combating Fiscal Fraud and Empowering Regulators or COFFERS project.
