Germany To Form New Unit, Boost Staff To Fight Tax Fraud

Law360 (November 18, 2019, 8:49 AM EST) -- Germany’s finance ministry said Monday it is planning to set up a new unit in its tax office and boost staff to fight cases of tax fraud, following outrage over a complex tax avoidance scheme.

The ministry said it is filling more than 100 positions in the country's federal central tax office and that it will establish a tax fraud-fighting department that will be staffed by 43 experts.

“Large-scale tax fraud and trickery should be tracked down faster in the future,” the ministry announced on Twitter Monday morning.
