Switzerland To Extradite Lawyer Accused In Cum-Ex Scandal

By Joseph Boris (August 27, 2021, 7:43 PM EDT) -- Switzerland plans to extradite a lawyer formerly with the now-defunct firm Dewey & LeBoeuf to face charges in his native Germany's cum-ex tax scandal, his attorney confirmed Friday while saying the lawyer was innocent and would fight the move.

Defense lawyer Kai Schaffelhuber told Law360 that Hanno Berger's extradition had been approved by the Swiss Federal Office of Justice on Aug. 20 and that the decision could — and would — be appealed.

Representatives of the office didn't respond to requests for comment, but German and international news reports said a spokesperson there had disclosed the extradition plan.
