Post Office Struggles To Compensate Scandal Victims

By Irene Madongo (January 11, 2022, 7:44 PM GMT) -- The Post Office warned senior MPs on Tuesday that it needs government funds to compensate postmasters who were wrongly prosecuted and caught up in a scandal over a faulty computer system.

Chief Executive Nick Read told the influential Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee that the business is making progress on payouts to postmasters who were prosecuted or hit by problems associated with its Horizon information technology system.

But asked what was preventing him from ensuring full and final compensation for everybody involved, the chief executive said the problem boiled down to money.
