A New York federal judge awarded $1.4 million in costs and attorneys' fees to Run-DMC copyright holder Protoons Inc. on Friday, saying Reach Music Publishing Inc. and songwriter David Reeves must compensate the company for legal expenses after accusing Protoons in a 2009 lawsuit of copyright infringement.

Reach Music Publishing Inc. president Michael Closter told a Manhattan federal judge Monday that Run-DMC copyright holder Protoons Inc. is "obsessed" with retribution against him for his attempts to collect royalties on behalf of one of the hip-hop group's writers, while Protoons countered that Closter "maliciously" violated a no-suit clause.
