HSBC Unit Can Enforce $10M Jordanian Award, Judge Rules

Law360, London (March 14, 2019, 9:04 PM GMT) -- HSBC Bank Middle East Ltd. won recovery of an award over $10 million against a Jordanian national on Thursday, after a judge in London rejected the evidence put forward by the defendant who argued that the bank was not entitled to make the claim against him.

Judge David Waksman said that there was nothing in the contemporaneous documents put before the court to support Jabra Jeris Ibrahim Sharbain’s defense that HSBC ME was never the beneficiary of the Jordanian award it was seeking to enforce against him in the U.K.
