The Patent Trial and Appeal Board has wiped out a technology company's patent covering a wireless charging system created by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, finding that the patent asserted in parallel Delaware federal court litigation is invalid as obvious.

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board decided on Wednesday to institute a review of whether a WiTricity wireless energy transfer patent was invalid, reversing course on an earlier decision denying electric vehicle charger maker Momentum's challenge to the patent.
