Council Adopts Position On Whistleblower Protection Rules

Law360, London (January 25, 2019, 6:25 PM GMT) -- The Council of the European Union on Friday agreed to proposed legislation that intends to protect whistleblowers, after recent scandals exposed the limited help available for those who try to expose bad corporate behavior.

The council has agreed on its position on draft rules that will provide safeguards for whistleblowers in areas such as tax evasion and corruption, including the right to legal aid and possible financial support, and to outlaw retaliation against whistleblowers.
