Zurich Insurance Seeks Committal In False Statement Case

Law360, London (April 3, 2019, 4:59 PM BST) -- Zurich Insurance urged a London appellate court on Wednesday to allow committal proceedings against a man who lied in a claim for damages over hearing loss caused by noise, arguing that the case is in the public interest.

David Callow, representing the insurer, said that although David Romaine has dropped his claim for hearing loss against his employer, which was Zurich’s client, he should not be let off the hook for making false statements in his initial application for damages of up to £5,000.
