US Sailor Entitled To Insurance Payout For Grounded Yacht

Law360, London (May 22, 2019, 7:25 PM BST) -- The owner of a yacht that ran aground on a reef near the Philippines and was subsequently looted by thieves is entitled to an insurance payout to cover the damages she incurred, a London judge ruled on Wednesday after the insurer failed to show up for the trial.

Judge Julia Dias said that Northernreef Insurance Co. SA had not put forward any evidence to support its defense to the suit, and so Linda McKeever is entitled to recover approximately $516,788 in damages and interest, plus costs, under a policy she took out with the Uruguayan insurer.
