Building Supplier Sues Broker After Policy Fails On Fire Loss

Law360, London (August 20, 2019, 5:49 PM BST) -- A building supply company accused its insurance broker of negligently signing it up for an inadequate policy after Allianz covered just a fraction of a £1.7 million ($2.1 million) claim for fire damage.

Discount Merchant Builder said in an Aug. 12 claim, which was made public only this week, that Emson Corporate Services should have done more to make sure that it signed the company up for a suitable level of insurance.

The blaze in 2014 caused widespread damage to the company’s buildings and stock, affecting operations for a year. The Kent-based company said the blaze cost it £1.7 million....
