Insurers Must Back Self-Driving Car Technology, Hiscox Says

Law360, London (October 21, 2019, 2:40 PM BST) -- Insurers should back driverless car technology immediately as elements of the push toward automation are already making roads safer, London-listed insurer Hiscox has said — even though it will be some time before fully-self-driving cars take to the streets.

Companies are pouring money into technology that will eventually allow vehicles to drive themselves, Ed Wallis, an underwriter at Hiscox, said on Friday.

Fully automated “robot cars” might not be seen on the road for some time, but the technology behind the vision is making its way into existing vehicles and is already making roads safer, Wallis added.
