Underwriters Predict 5G To Be Biggest Insurance Disruptor

Law360, London (January 6, 2020, 12:24 PM GMT) -- British underwriters said Monday that new technology such as fifth-generation wireless networks and self-driving cars should be the biggest priority for insurers and regulators in 2020 as the industry seeks to "future-proof" itself.

The introduction of 5G networks — the most advanced mobile and internet technology yet developed — will cause the biggest disruption to the insurance industry because of the follow-on effects it will create. Hologram phone calls and augmented-reality glasses are just some of those developments, according to a report published by the International Underwriting Association.
