UK Launches Post-Brexit Global Health Insurance Card
Law360, London (January 12, 2021, 3:51 PM GMT) -- The British government has launched a replacement for the health insurance card that gives residents access to medical treatment when traveling in the European Union.
The U.K. Global Health Insurance Card, or GHIC, which is part of a new deal between Britain and the European Union, will give Britons access to emergency and necessary care, including treatment for existing conditions, the Department of Health said on Monday.
"Our deal with the EU ensures the right for our citizens to access necessary healthcare on their holidays and travels to countries in the EU will continue," Health Minister Edward Argar said.
