GE Urges Appeals Court To Dismiss HMRC Fraud Claims

Law360, London (February 9, 2021, 4:39 PM GMT) -- HM Revenue & Customs was too late in filing its new claim that General Electric fraudulently misled it during talks that led to a tax relief deal, a lawyer for the American conglomerate told an appeals court Tuesday.

GE urged the Court of Appeal to overturn part of a July decision from High Court Judge Antony Zacaroli, which allowed HMRC to amend its lawsuit against GE. The new claim alleges the technology company defrauded the tax authority when asserting it had handed over all the information it could during tax talks over a multibillion-dollar Australian investment.
