Rival Cochlear Implant Makers Battle Over MRI-Safe System IP

By Bonnie Eslinger (September 10, 2021, 7:10 PM BST) -- A company that makes cochlear implants is fighting a rival's bid in the U.K. to revoke its patent for an MRI-safe magnet that holds the hearing device in place.

Med-El Elektromedizinische Geräte GmbH, a company incorporated under Austrian law, said in its defense to the High Court claim filed by Advanced Bionics AG that the Swiss competitor is infringing its patent. Med-El also denied Advanced Bionics' arguments that the patent was invalid.

In addition, Med-El filed a counterclaim over Advanced Bionics' HiRes Ultra 3D cochlear implant, which Med-El said is offered and promoted in the U.K.
