Tanzanian Gold Co. Says It's Not Liable For 3 Deaths At Mine

By Silvia Martelli (May 11, 2022, 6:44 PM BST) -- Tanzania's largest gold producer has told a court that it is not responsible for the alleged "excessive" force police guards used at a mine internationally known for human rights violations that resulted in trespassers dying after being shot.

North Mara Gold Mine Ltd. said in a defense filed at the High Court on April 29, which has now been made public, that it is not liable for the actions of the local police force it hired to protect the gold mine in the north of Tanzania from thousands of monthly trespassers.
