Ireland Eyes Tightening Rules On Intragroup Insurance Deals

By Martin Croucher (June 17, 2022, 12:15 PM BST) -- The Central Bank of Ireland has said it is weighing rules that will require insurers to improve the way they consider the risk from loans or reinsurance contracts with other businesses within the same financial group. 

Governor Gabriel Makhlouf said on Thursday that the bank, which serves as Ireland's financial regulator, will publish a consultation at the end of June about its expectations for the sector.

The watchdog has previously carried out two thematic reviews, looking at how insurers consider the risk of transactions with entities within the same group, and had noticed that the sector had fallen short.
