TEXT MINUTE ENTRY for proceedings held before Magistrate Judge Ryan C. Carson on August 4, 2026, to discuss Plaintiff's Motion to Continue Case Progression Deadlines and the Motion to Withdraw as Counsel for Plaintiff. Plaintiff Hugo Palacios Vazquez appeared on his own behalf. Chinedu Igbokwe appeared as counsel for Plaintiff. Tara Stingley and Madeline Hasley appeared for Defendant.
Following the withdrawal of Sheppard, Mullin Law Firm, Plaintiff is given 45 days to decide whether to proceed with Mr. Igbokwe as counsel or to hire new counsel. Any new counsel shall file a notice of appearance on or before September 18, 2026. Mr. Igbokwe's Motion to Withdraw is denied subject to refiling. (Filing No. 70 ). In the meantime, Mr. Igbokwe is directed to make efforts to secure the case file from the Sheppard, Mullin Law Firm and to confer with his client and with defense counsel concerning outstanding discovery issues.
The motion to continue is granted, in part. (Filing No. 68 ). The written discovery deadline is extended to September 22, 2026, and this case is set for further status conference on September 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. to discuss case progression. If Plaintiff has new counsel, the new counsel shall appear for the status conference. Counsel shall use the conferencing instructions assigned to this case to participate in the call. (Filing No. 33 ). The status conference set for September 29, 2026, is cancelled.
