** TEXT ONLY ORDER ** Defendant Allianz Life Insurance Company removed this case from state court on May 8, 2026 with the consent of self-represented defendant Ronald Machtan. Dkt. 1 & Dkt. 1 -4. Allianz has filed a motion to dismiss. Dkt. 7 . Machtan was served with the summons and complaint on April 14, 2026, but did not answer before the case was removed. Dkt. 1 -1 at 20. Relevant here, a defendant who did not answer before removal must answer within 7 days after the notice of removal is filed, or in this case by May 15, 2026. Fed. R. Civ. P. 81(c)(2)(C). Machtan did not seek an extension of his deadline to answer, and has yet to appear or answer. Because he is representing himself, the court will extend Machtan's deadline to answer to July 7, 2026. The court will hold a telephonic preliminary pretrial conference in this matter on July 20, 2026 at 3:30 p.m. The parties are to call (669) 254-5252, enter meeting ID 161 2455 6623 when prompted, and wait to be admitted into the conference.
