Settlement Conference
Minute Entry for proceedings held before Magistrate Judge Christopher A. dos Santos. HEARING ON APPROVAL OF SETTLEMENT OF MINOR PLAINTIFFS CLAIMS held on 8/4/2026. A breakdown of the settlement amounts and disbursements was presented. Plaintiff/Next Friend Luis Angel Grimaldo Sanchez testified under oath that he believes the settlement is in the best interest of the Minor Plaintiff and requests Court approval. The Guardian ad Litem for Minor Plaintiff recommends that the settlement funds be placed into the selected structured annuity. The GAL recommended the Court approve the settlement and that the settlement is in the Minor Plaintiff's best interest. The Court finds that the GAL's report is accurate; that the Minor Plaintiff's interests have been protected; and that the terms of settlement are fair, reasonable, and in the Minor Plaintiff's best interest. The Court will recommend that the GAL be paid $1,500, an amount agreed to by Defendant. The Court will recommend the District Judge approve the settlement with proceeds being deposited into the annuity plan selected for the Minor Plaintiff. Due to recent changes in the annuity plan with respect to Plaintiff Luis Angel Grimaldo Sanchez, Defendants request 45 days to file closing documents. All parties orally waived the right to object to the Magistrate Judges findings and recommendations. A written Report and Recommendation will follow. Appearances by: David Lesley Jones f/PLAINTIFF. Jose Luis Castillo f/MINOR PLAINTIFF. Joanna Lippman Salinas f/DEFENDANTS. [Time in Court: 11:00 AM - 11:18 AM](ERO: Veronica Madrigal), filed. (mlr5)
