UK Judge Fells Timber Co.'s US Suit Against London Insurer

Law360, London (January 2, 2019, 4:03 PM GMT) -- A London judge has ruled that a U.S. timber giant cannot pursue legal proceedings in a Washington DC court against Lloyd’s of London insurer Catlin and XL Insurance in an attempt to force them to pay out liability cover under an excess-of-loss insurance policy.

Judge Robin Knowles ruled in a decision handed down at the High Court on Dec. 21 that the wood producer and two insurers, Catlin Syndicate Ltd. and XL Insurance Co. SE, had agreed to refer the dispute — over losses stemming from product liability claims — for arbitration in London based on the wording of the policy....
