Crime Gangs Targeting Pension Savers, UK Gov't Warns

Law360, London (February 12, 2019, 1:04 PM GMT) -- Organized crime groups led by married couples or families are swindling pension-holders out of their retirement savings, government agencies, regulators and the police warned on Tuesday.

Intelligence gathered by Project Bloom, which was set up by the government in 2012 to fight pension fraud, shows that investors are being targeted by so-called “fraudster families” in scams that are netting tens of millions of pounds for the crooks behind them.

Several criminal investigations into these family gangs — which involve siblings, married couples and parents and their adult children — are being led by The Pensions Regulator. Government agencies including the Financial Conduct...
