IRS Overreaching In Coinbase Summons, Wash. Man Says

Law360 (June 28, 2019, 8:13 PM EDT) -- An Internal Revenue Service summons seeking a Washington man’s Coinbase records is overly broad and conflicts with an earlier ruling limiting the information the agency could seek from the digital currency exchange, the man recently told a California federal court.

The IRS requested Coinbase Inc. to turn over documents related to customer William Zietzke, such as his contact information, communications and due diligence documents even though the court found that information to be irrelevant in a previous John Doe summons case, Zietzke said in his Thursday petition.
