Allianz Understood PPI Risks, Clothier Responds To £27M Suit

Law360, London (March 10, 2020, 7:37 PM GMT) -- A catalog clothing company has hit back against Allianz in a £27 million ($34.8 million) suit over payment protection insurance, arguing in a counterclaim that the underwriter “ought to have known better” than the retailer about the risks of PPI.

Allianz Insurance PLC is suing J.D. Williams & Co. Ltd. over £27 million it paid out in missold PPI claims to J.D. Williams customers. But in defense papers filed March 6 in London’s High Court, the clothing company launched a counterclaim for the amount it has already paid out from PPI claims prior to 2005, arguing that Allianz is equally liable....
