Fed. Circ. Judge 'Baffled' Over Grand Theft Auto Patent Beef

Law360 (March 3, 2021, 6:22 PM EST) -- Federal Circuit judges seemed doubtful Wednesday that the creators of Grand Theft Auto trampled a software developer's patent on a multiplayer gaming network, with one judge saying she was puzzled by the patent owner's argument.

Acceleration Bay LLC wants the appellate court to overturn a Delaware federal judge's rejection of a patent suit against Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. — which provides software for players to connect in online sports and action games — saying Take-Two performs the "final assembly" that's required to engage over servers.

But in Wednesday's oral arguments, U.S. Circuit Judge Kimberly A. Moore wasn't buying Acceleration Bay's contention...
