Top Businesses Told To Tighten Modern Slavery Compliance

By Joel Poultney (April 25, 2022, 12:30 PM BST) -- Major companies in Britain are breaking the law by failing to provide statements about how they are tackling modern slavery, according to a report by the accounting watchdog published on Monday.

Research into the statements and strategic and governance reports published by 100 major companies listed on the London Stock Exchange shows they have given inadequate consideration to human rights violations, the Financial Reporting Council said.

"One in 10 companies does not provide a modern slavery statement, despite it being a legal requirement," the regulator added.
