Audit Regulator Urges Actuaries To Weigh ESG Risks

By Joel Poultney (June 15, 2022, 4:38 PM BST) -- The audit watchdog floated proposals on Wednesday, which would require actuaries to include the impact of climate change and other environmental problems in their risk-based modeling assessments, joining a string of professional services now factoring in the concerns.

The Financial Reporting Council wants industry feedback on its proposed amendments to the standards that bind actuaries and their modeling. The watchdog said practitioners are well-versed in assessing traditional risk, but proposed newly emerging areas — such as the impact of climate change and environmental, social and governance, or ESG — that need to be considered.
