Order on Motion for Protective Order
ORDER by Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai: Before the Court is the Parties' Stipulated Protective Order (ECF No. 28 ). Litigation documents should be public unless a party shows good cause that the documents should be sealed because they will result in specific harm or prejudice. Phillips ex rel. Estates of Byrd v. Gen. Motors Corp., 307 F.3d 1206, 1210-11 (9th Cir. 2002). Even then, the court must balance the public's interest in access and private interests to decide whether an order is necessary. Id. The Court finds that the generalized concerns expressed in the Stipulated Protective Order do not sufficiently outweigh the strong public interest in information important to public interest, health, and safety to justify the broad protection sought. See In re Roman Catholic Archbishop of Portland in Oregon, 661 F.3d 417, 424 & n.5 (9th Cir. 2011) (listing factors). The Court DECLINES TO ADOPT the Parties' Stipulated Protective Order (ECF No. 28 ). The Court will take up specific confidentiality concerns as they arise. The Parties should be prepared to address any outstanding confidentiality concerns at the Court's upcoming status conference. (bd)
