2nd Circ. Mulls 'Wealth Factor' In Lebanese Man's Bail Bid

Law360 (May 14, 2019, 9:10 PM EDT) -- A Second Circuit panel considering whether to allow a Lebanese salesman out on bail with tens of millions of dollars in bond and under private guard raised concerns on Tuesday about providing a privileged tier of the justice system for the rich.

Following a trial court's rejection, the three-judge panel considered this latest bid for bail by Jean Boustani, formerly a top salesman for Abu Dhabi-based shipbuilder Privinvest, who stands accused of participating in a bribery and investor fraud scheme in Mozambique in connection with $2 billion in government-backed loans for purported maritime projects.
